Old Natchez Trace Trail

My wife and I went driving down Natchez Trace Parkway a couple of weeks ago and walked along a part of the original trail from the 1700s. It was a very interesting place to visit. We've gone back twice since this trip.

My wife has been wanting a picket fence around part of our yard for a long time. So two weeks ago I started making one for her. I cut and put the lumber together and she painted it. We're going to put another 8 ft. section on it and run it into the cedar bush. Hope it turns out as good as the first one did.

Well it's been a while since I posted a new picture. So here it is....Today my wife and I went to the Buffalo River in middle Tennessee just south of Linden,Tn. to check out a new place to float down the river. There are several places to float the Buffalo river from. We have done it three times in the past and wanted a different area to see. This is a view North from the place you would end the float. We decided to come back soon and do the eight mile float, which they said would be appx. 4 to 4 1/2 hours to complete and the cost was only $25. They also allow camping by the river, but we forgot to ask the cost of that. We thought we could go down one evening and camp at the drop off place and wouldn't have to get up so early and drive. Then float the river the next day and spend the night again and then drive back home, which is close to an 1 1/2 hour drive home. I think we'd be more rested doing it that way.

My wife and I went fishing this evening and this is what it looked like as we left. We did catch two fish. Also one 2 lb catfish got away and one very large catfish at least 10 lb got away from me on the rocks. I sure hated that.

My wife and I looked in the side of the yard this morning and a huge amount of wild white roses and honeysuckle too had opened up. So I took a picture of the honeysuckle. The white roses where hard to see even in the morning sunlight, because it was washing out the white in the roses too much.

These daisies are popping up all in our backyard. It's my wife's favorite flower and we don't mow them down until they are finished blooming each year. She gets the weed eater and gets the grass around them so I don't cut them with the mower. We've got a lot of them all in the yard.

My wife and I went bike riding and fishing yesterday. This is a scene from backwater of the Tennessee river. We were surpised to see all the cypress trees. (We only caught two small fish and threw them back in.)

My wife an I went on a long bike ride yesterday along side the Tennessee river for about 10 miles one way and back. It was a beautiful day, about 82 degrees and sunny. We had a good time, but a little tired. It took us about 3 1/2 hours. We stopped twice and ate a sandwich and looked at the scenery and of course took pictures. We saw a lot of scenery we hadn't seen before. It was a fun trip.

Here's my two grandsons yesterday. We took them on a 2 mile hike to see if the eagle's nest was still there this year. On the way back they got tired a little.

Here's another view of the Tennessee river about 30 miles north of Lady Finger Bluff. This is an overlook just North of Rockport Landing where during the Civil War a Federal gunboat named the W.C.Terry, a steamboat, was captured and sank. It is said that for years its twin smokestacks could be seen at low water times protruding above the river. Too bad you can't see them now, it would make a great site to see. But anyway it is a beautiful view from the overlook today.

This little guy visited our Azalea bush the other day. It was just too pretty not to try and get a picture of it. It took several tries, but I finally got a good picture of him close up. I love my macro lens, now I can get close up.

Took this Sunday when my wife and I made the 2.7 mile hike up to Lady Finger Bluff in a local state park. We're about 75 feet above the Tennessee river looking into west Tennessee. It was a beautiful day.

I'm not sure whether this is a small tree or a large bush, but I"ve never seen one like this. So when I saw it yesterday working I made sure I took my camera out there today and took a picture of it. I pasted a picture of the blooms in the right hand corner so you can see them better. The flowers on it look like carnations. But I really don't know what it is. If anyone knows please tell me, my wife and I'd like to know. Maybe we could plant one in our yard also.

I was working yesterday with a client of mine when I saw this and luckily had my camera with me. It's a slightly curved driveway to a house lined with these different colored tulips. They looked so good I took several pictures of them from different angles.

My wife and I came across this massive Wisteria vine growing all over this part of the woods today. This picture really doesn't do it justice. I tried to enchance to color to show it up as good as it did in real life. In the corner I inserted a close up of them. There were bumble bees all over it. It smelled good too with the wind blowing it's fragrance all around.

I thought this was interesting. As I was driving thru the countryside I saw this. It appears to be a trough to water cattle or horses carved out of the local rock. Also behind this is a cistern to collect water. Just thought it was unusual.

I was at Duck River Wildlife Refuge at sunset and took this picture. There's even a duck flying just to the right of center of the picture. It was a pretty day, but cool. Around 50 degrees.

I was driving out in the countryside a few days ago and ran across this unusual site. Someone living next to this spring had put a pump house into the rock and was pumping the water out of it into their house. If you look really close on the rock just above the water you can see a dipper hanging on the rock. Guess someone regularly drinks from the spring. Anyway looks like an economical way to get some good water basically free.
